    Castellani, Simone

    Simone Castellani is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University Institute of Lisbon (CIES‐IUL) carrying out the project Health Care in Mobility (HC‐Mob), which focuses on the transnational health protection of Southern EU migrants in a re‐nationalized Europe. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology (University of Seville, Spain) with a dissertation focused on the social‐cultural insertion of the Ecuadorian migrants' children in Spain and Italy. Further, he holds a Ph.D. in Migration and Intercultural Processes (University of Genoa, Italy) with a dissertation on the new Italian and Spanish migration to Germany. Both dissertations were awarded Ph.D. Distinctions.

    He was a visiting fellow in several Research Center as the CONICET (Argentina), University of Santa Caterina (Brazil), the University of Bielefeld and University of Freiburg (Germany), Wellesley College (US), FLACSO‐ Ecuador, and University of Sussex (UK). In the last five years, he presented communications at 27 conferences, congresses, and workshops. Furthermore, he was invited speaker at the University of Harvard, Freiburg, Bielefeld, Cadiz Val Paraiso, La Plata, Maastricht, UNAM, Bologna, Nottingham, Edge Hill, and Berlin Integration and Migration Centre.

    In the last few years, he has carried out his core researches at the CIES‐IUL. First, he integrated the UPWEB‐ NORFACE EU project team, which focused on the practices of welfare bricolage in contexts marked by high diversity. Subsequently, he was FCT postdoctoral scholar carrying out a study on the new Portuguese emigration toward Germany. Besides, in the last five years, he collaborated with the "Global Social Protection project," led by the Transnational Studies Initiative at the University of Harvard (PI: Peggy Levitt), which investigated transnational social protection focusing on access to the health care of Ecuadorian migrants in the US, Italy, Spain, and Ecuador. Further, he participated in the FP7‐ IRSES‐Marie Curie project GOVDIV‐ Multilevel Governance of Cultural Diversity in a Comparative Perspective: EU‐Latin (PI: Beatriz Padilla). Currently, he collaborates with the I+D+i FEDER Andalucía project Migrascape, which explores the Ethnic, media, and ideological landscapes in contemporary Europe (PI: Emma Martín) and MINECO excellence projects "Nuevas 'movilidades' intraeuropeas" which explore the work, family, and political decision of the new Spanish emigrants (PI: Anastasia Bermudez).

    He has published the results of his researches in different languages (English, Italian and Spanish), as a single author or co‐author, in international journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus such as "International Migration", "Cultural Studies", "Comparative Migration Studies", “Studi Emigrazione” or "Sociologia del Lavoro" and in other peer‐reviewed journals. In 2019, has co‐edited a special issue on Global and Transnational Social Protection for the journal Mondi Migranti. Further, he has published a peer‐reviewed book and book chapters in peer review books (e.g., Routledge edition).
